The Model 35 features a sophisticated tri-column design, inspired by SME’s flagship Model 60, crafted with meticulous precision. Its acoustically optimized chassis, paired with de-coupled feet for multipoint isolation, enhances performance by controlling resonance. The SME Model 35 is equipped with the enhanced Series Vi Tonearm, where “i” signifies improvement, demonstrating a significant enhancement over the Series V. The Series Vi tonearm is CNC machined from High-Density Polymer material, ensuring extreme precision. This one-piece design is crafted with tight tolerances and adheres to our rigorous standards of quality control. The Vi tube features a circular cross-sectional shape. This design results in a very low resonance signature with far better measured tonearm and pillar resonances, contributing to pure tonal fidelity.

The turntable is driven by a custom made bi-phase AC synchronous
motor. The speed control unit uses a dedicated DSP engine to generate
two independent pure mathematical sine waves which provide total
control of frequency, phase relationship and amplitude. These in turn are
matched (tuned) to the motor for accuracy to obtain the best possible
performance. The output driver stage is a 2 channel, class AB Bi-polar
design with low distortion and relay coupled directly to the motor. The
entire design is implemented using high quality surface mount technology
on a gold plated FR4 PCB.
